报告内容简介:
Population growth and economic development around the world, especially in emerging strong economy of countries in Asia such as China and India has put a great pressure on built environment, driving demand for housing, infrastructure and resources. The potential of climate change would greatly exacerbate the pressure, through the increased requirements in both service capacity and performance of built environment.

The challenges for future urban societies under climate change are to provide healthy climate-adaptive built environments. Development of more sustainable and resilient built environments will require transformation of the existing practices and regulations, which have been developed with the premise that future climate is stable and predictable. It will be implemented through improved performance of materials, structures and infrastructure services under changing climates. In addition, integration of built infrastructure and green infrastructure will be needed in existing and new urban landscapes to develop climate adaptive responses to heat waves considering urban heat island.

The lectures intends to shed a light on the challenges we are facing, by introduce the basics of climate change and its likely impacts on built environment. It also introduces the approaches in developing climate adaptation for built environment, clarifying decision pathways for better long-term benefits to economy and communities through planning, design, construction, maintenance and renewal over the lifecycle of the built environment under climate change uncertainties, and further providing co-benefits to our society through the establishment of climate-adaptive sustainable built environment.

The lectures will include four units in total, followed by discussions on the current international trends in research.

Unit 1: Basics of Climate Change
Unit 2: Assessment of Climate Change Impact
Discussion: where shall we position our research in climate change, from the aspect of engineering and environment science?

Unit 3: Development of Climate Adaptation
Unit 4: Decision-Making and Implications to Public Policies
Discussion: What shall we consider in the research/development of sustainable built environment?
